EUROPEAN BISON FRIENDS SOCIETY
The European Bison Friends Society (EBFS) was established in 2005. During the first general assembly, the members elected the president and board of the EBFS.
Professor Wanda Olech was elected the president.
Now, among over 200 members of the Society there are mostly functionaries of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and other specialists of ecology, genetics, veterinary and breeding as well as foresters. In one word, people involved in actions towards the species protection.
The main goal of the EBFS activity is supporting actions towards the protection of Bison bonasus. It is written in the Statute that the main area of activity of EBFS is Poland, but if it’s required, actions can also be committed abroad. To achieve its objectives the EBFS takes educational, scientific, editorial and documentary activity. Moreover the EBFS cooperates with NGO’s and public organizations in order to ensure a proper execution of the requirements resulting from nature and environment protection law regulations. Finally the EBFS organizes the international conferences and symposia about biology and protection of B. bonasus as well as courses for private breeders.

EUROPEAN BISON PEDIGREE BOOK
The European Bison Pedigree Book (EBPB) is the genealogical registry of all surviving E. bison. In the history, European bison was the first of active conservation species in which there were used the registration of pedigree. After the extirpation of last population of the European bison at Bialowieska Forest (1919) and in Caucasus (1926 or 27), under the framework of the International Society for European Bison Protection in Germany, the restitution of the species was initiated, on the basis of individuals surviving in captivity. In 1924 Groeben recorded 66 (33,33) living individuals, and in a pedigree record from 1931 given are genealogical data of 171 animals, including 65 still beaing alive, which became a potential founder herd for contemporary bison. European Bison Pedigree Book (EBPB) for the period 1931 – 1936 (Goerd v.d. Groeben, Erna Mohr) was edited in Germany, and after a break, since 1947 in Poland (Jan Żabinski). Since 1991, the editorial office is situated at Bialowieza, within the structure of Bialowieski National Park. EBPB, thanks to co-operation with owners of animals, is maintaining a continuous pedigree registration of pure blood European bison in breeding enclosures and is monitoring bison numbers in free ranging herds. Data, published annually are available for animals’ owners and for other interested parties.

The EPBP became an integral part of the EBAC database/information management.
In 2015 we use the official world register of living pure-bred European bison on 31 December 2013. The reason is that the data regarding the year 2013 were being passed to the Editor of EBPB during the year 2014. Accordingly, EBPB 2013 was published at the beginning of 2015.
